School Events
This year at Monkwick Infant and Nursery School has been filled with exciting events and unforgettable moments that have brought our school community together.
We kicked off the new school year with the Eco-team visiting a local orchard with the support of Orchard World.
Orchard World inspired Year 2 children by teaching them about the origins of fruit and guiding them in creating art with specially selected fruits.
We then kicked off the festive season with a magical Christmas fête, where families enjoyed wonderful stalls, delicious treats, and festive cheer.
More recently, our Valentine’s Ball saw pupils dressing up for a night of music, dancing, and celebration.
Beyond the fun, our Eco Team has proudly taken part in a prestigious competition, showcasing their dedication to sustainability and making a real impact on our environment. These events—and many more—reflect the heart of our school: a place where learning extends beyond the classroom, friendships flourish, and every child has the chance to shine. We look forward to even more exciting opportunities ahead!
We are also thrilled to be working in partnership with the Royal Opera House to develop our very own Cultural Champions. Through this unique collaboration, our youngest learners are introduced to the rich world of performing arts, with the opportunity for our teachers to engage in creative workshops and performances led by expert artists. By immersing our children in music, dance, and theatre, we aim to inspire a love of the arts and nurture a sense of cultural appreciation. This partnership not only enriches their educational experience but also helps to shape confident, curious individuals who are ready to celebrate and contribute to the cultural world around them.
Exciting Gardening Project with Lee Connelly, The Skinny Jean Gardener!
We are thrilled to announce that Lee Connelly, also known as The Skinny Jean Gardener, will be working with us on a fantastic gardening project - The School Garden Competition in Colchester City Centre! Lee is a passionate advocate for encouraging children to get involved in gardening. He has a fun, hands-on approach to making gardening accessible and exciting for all ages. This will be a wonderful opportunity for the children to develop important life skills, such as teamwork, responsibility, and environmental awareness.
School Number Day was a fantastic event where the children had a great time applying their number skills in creative and exciting ways. They enjoyed solving problems to uncover answers to the clues, keeping everyone fully engaged throughout the day. Number-related activities were celebrated across the school, fostering a fun and interactive learning environment. Students enthusiastically applied their skills, making the whole experience both educational and enjoyable.
National Careers day at the school was a vibrant celebration of future possibilities. Children enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to dress as their imagined future selves. Tiny builders, sporting tool belts and hard hats, proudly displayed their construction skills, often using blocks and recycled materials.
The classrooms transformed into a microcosm of the working world. Budding medical professionals, equipped with stethoscopes and white coats, diligently cared for their patients. Aspiring artists, their faces adorned with colourful paint, showcased their creative talents. Future astronauts, their homemade helmets gleaming, explored the vast expanse of the classroom floor, their imaginations soaring to distant galaxies. The event provided a tangible glimpse into diverse career paths, sparking curiosity and fostering dreams of future contributions. Well done, everyone!
World Book Day Celebrations
For World Book Day, our school celebrated with a range of exciting activities that encouraged a love of reading. It was lovely to see so many children dressed up as their favourite book characters or in their favourite comfy clothes, bringing stories to life in the classroom. We hosted book swaps, shared storytelling sessions, and enjoyed reading opportunities throughout the day. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to connect through the joy of books and inspire a lifelong passion for reading!
