Writing
Our EYFS and KS1 writing curriculum is designed to ignite a passion for language and creativity, helping children become confident and capable writers.
In EYFS, we introduce children to the joy of mark-making, letter formation, and simple sentence writing, building essential skills for written communication. A key focus is on oracy, encouraging children to talk about their ideas, thoughts, and stories aloud, which helps develop their vocabulary and understanding of language before they put pen to paper.
As children progress to KS1, we deepen their writing abilities by exploring spelling, grammar, and punctuation, allowing them to craft stories, instructions, and more. Through structured lessons, children continue to develop their oracy skills by discussing their writing ideas, improving both their spoken and written communication.
We believe that strong oracy skills, developed from an early age, are crucial to success in writing, helping children express themselves clearly and confidently both in conversation and on paper.
