Eco Team

The Eco team was launched in 2021. This is run by Mrs Pennell, a year two teacher. Much like the school council, children who would like to be part of the eco team explain to the class why they would be a good representative, and the children have a secret vote to elect their representatives. 

The eco team have enjoyed taking part in various activities so far including helping the council to plant trees, and entering the Colchester Schools in Bloom competition, where we were very pleased to be awarded third place with a special award for ‘being a good eco school.’. 

The members of the eco team visited the town hall and were presented with the trophy by the mayor. This was a very proud moment for the team and the school was delighted with how hard the team had worked.

The children have also worked in partnership with Orchard World and visited a local orchard; see below more information about this fantastic opportunity. The Eco team have been very well supported by this local company.

During the Summer term

The whole school enthusiastically participated in this year's Schools in Bloom project, a truly collaborative effort.  Every year group contributed to the growing of a variety of plants, demonstrating so much pride in their hard work and efforts. The schools in bloom project has really helped  to  foster a love for gardening and looking after the environment as well as making links to the science curriculum, providing hands-on learning experiences. The school really does look "alive" with all the growing and planting that has taken place.  A highlight was the creation of "bees" from junk modelling, again encouraging the children to look after our environment by recycling. The judges were very impressed with all of our efforts and the eco team were amazing role models and ambassadors of our school as they showed the judges around the school.
