Finches, Robins and Sparrows

Spring term topic

This half term topic is Traditional tales.  We will be looking at the books ‘The Gingerbread man’ and ‘The three little pigs’.  We will be learning to retell the stories using actions and story maps, describing the characters, making our own Gingerbread people and investigating what happens when they go into water.  We will be problem solving, finding ways for the Gingerbread man to cross the river and materials that will help keep the pigs dry and much more!

Tapestry
At Monkwick Infant school we use ‘Tapestry’.  This is an electronic learning journal that you can access at home.  We really value contributions from parents and carers as it helps inform our assessments and to build a bigger picture about your child, e.g. being able to ride their bike, about their hobbies, celebrations and the technology they use, by allowing you to upload your own comments, photos and videos.  If you would like to have access to your child’s journal, please see the class teacher.

PE

Finches – Wednesday mornings

Sparrows – Thursday mornings

Robins – Friday mornings

Please ensure that your child has everything they need with them for PE - they must have a t-shirt, shorts/trousers and plimsolls. Please remember to put names in all items of their uniform and PE kit, to ensure all items can be returned should they be misplaced. For your child’s own health and safety, please ensure all jewellery is removed on PE days, as staff are unable to remove it and take responsibility for its safe keeping.

Reading Books and Sight Words

Books are changed weekly on Mondays and pupils will have the opportunity to read with an adult in their class throughout the week. New sight word sheets will be added to your child’s book as they become confident in reading each set by sight. Encouraging your child to read a book more than once allows them to become more fluent and gain a greater understanding of the text. Don't forget to sign your child's reading record when you read with them and add a comment.

Snack

We ask for contributions of £1 a week. Your contribution goes towards the cost of purchasing additional snack items, juice and food tasting experiences.
